I Wrote Everyday — Now I Make a Living Writing
It’s not easy leaving behind a job and taking up writing full time — but it is possible.
It wasn’t long ago that I was a struggling writer, trying to find my place in the world. I spent hours every day writing, working on my craft and publishing my work wherever I could, hoping that one day I would be able to make a living from my writing. And now, here I am, making a full-time income from my passion. It’s not easy, and it took a huge leap of faith (I quit my full time job) but it can work.
Building a reader base was really the first step. It took time and effort, but eventually, I was able to attract a loyal following who enjoyed my writing and wanted to read more. Not all my readers are loyal. Some like an article or two, but some are here because they actually find stories from a Venezuelan kid who had to move to Canada as a teen quite entertaining, or even helpful and inspiring. Here are the five steps I took to become a full-time writer:
Step 1: Write every day
The first and most important step is to write every day. Writing is a skill, and like any skill, it takes practice to get better. The more you write, the better you will get.
